Berth 30 Gatehouse

The Gate Building is a bridge over the entry and exit lanes.  Over the lanes are administrative offices and the "kitchen".  The kitchen is the control center for the terminal where containers are checked into and out of the terminal. The terminal is one of the most efficient in the world. The layout was developed using a proprietary simulation program. The building is one of three major buildings on the site. The Gatehouse (shown), a Maintenance Facility and the Supercargo Building at the wharf.

Mr. Groch was Lead Architect for the  JWD team.  The project was awarded a National A.I.A. Award of Merit.

Havens Elementary School

Constructed to replace an existing elementary school,  the new buildings were designed to blend into the fabric of the central commercial area of Piedmont, California.  This community featured numerous examples to the Mission Style buildings.  The building on the left is an existing community center that is locally registered as an important building.  The building to the right contains the school library and administration offices. The courtyard serves as both the primary entry and a security/control point for the school.

Mr. Groch was the Lead Architect for the ATI team.

Groch Residence

On a busy street the driveway and a garden wall form a barrier between the house and the busy street.  Pass through the gate and enter an intermediate zone with a walkway and a garden.  Then into the house where most of the windows look out onto a park and a filtered view of San Francisco.

Mr. Groch was the Architect for this project.
